For the JO/O Groups:

1 Sep 2016 by Diana Stambaugh

Hello,
As the first days of practice are quickly approaching, I have a few reminders and things of note for the swimmers in the Olympian and Junior Olympian groups.
• Firstly, please remember that the UD practices will run from Monday 9/12 thru Friday, 10/14. This means that the first week of practice (9/6 thru 9/8) will be at GNBC. Please do NOT show up at UD that week. None of us will be there !
• As we have in the past, we will be using beepers (Tempo Trainers), flippers, and nose clips (as needed) during practices. Some of you still have flippers from the club (from the summer time) – please be sure to bring these to the fall practices. If you happened to “accidentally” take a beeper home with you (or 2, or 3 – I won’t mention any names here ), please bring them with you as well. While we will have some beepers, flippers, and nose clips on hand, depending on the group size, we may not have enough for everyone. I recommend purchasing your own beeper, fins, and nose clip (if needed). This way you will always have what you need.
• I would like to make clear the distinction between the Olympian program and the Olympian – High School Option program.
o Those swimmers registering for the Olympian program plan to go the “Full Monty.” This means hitting all the practices (yes – this includes the ones before school), committing to goals, swimming each set of every practice with intent, maturely approaching dry-land exercises, planning their social calendars around swimming commitments (not the other way around), etc. These swimmers will generally be seniors, possibly juniors in high school.
o Those swimmers participating in the Olympian – High School Option program should also plan on setting goals and swimming each set with intent. Swimmers in this group will generally fall into two categories: 1. Talented, but younger swimmers who have yet to develop physically and/or emotionally. 2. Multi-talented swimmers who may enjoy the sport, but maintain commitments to other sports and/or activities.
• A change this year regarding morning practices and dry-land practices. We are requiring any swimmer that would like to participate in either the dryland practices or the Tuesday/Thursday morning practices to first get approval from either Coach Keith (for dryland) or Coach Tom (for the morning practices). If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to ask Tom, Keith, or myself.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have! Enjoy the holiday weekend and we will see you next week!!
